ARGUMENT VERSA AGREEMENT

What is Rogerian argument?  An argument is just that, or is it?  When you write a paper trying to stress or argue your own point of view you may run into a  lot of different views and opinions.

Rogerian  is a conflict solving technique based on finding a common ground instead of an  opposing debate. A way to solving complicated problems and to negotiate differences.  Common goals are identified and opposing views are described as objectively as possible in an effort to establish common ground and reach agreement.

No two points of view are alike. Although they may have the same ideas and opinions there are always individual views as every person is individual. Our DNA is different and therefore so are our thoughts and ideas.  Indeed aren't we thankful for this for we have those individuals that has had ideas that has enhanced our world.

So as you read papers and documents and arguments that may or may not agree, each point of view gives ideas and warrants research or consideration. Therefore the Rogerian method-seeking a mutually satisfactory solution.

  1. You are correct in saying, "no two points are alike". Even technical research can sometimes lead you to different points on the same subject. I think this assignment will teach us all a lot about different view points. Hopefully everyone had looked ahead and realized that the Rogerian assignment was on t he same topic as the Informative Research essay because a good topic pick is essential this time. By the way Vicki, the picture of the two people debating was perfect for this post.

  2. Good break down on a rogerian argument Vicki. I am already going over my tactic of how I am going to attack this paper and what points I want to concentrate on. This isn't just a persuasive argument paper, but showing two different sides of an issue and rationalizing which one is the right one. I'm kind of nerdy excited about this paper.

  3. Vicki, This was well written and I am truly enjoying watching you "grow" as a writer. Not that I am sitting in judgment of your writing, but I have seen you grow in your writing and expand on the things you have learned. This was truly well written. Good Job.

  4. Vicki,
You did an excellent job explain the Rogerian argument. I've been brainstorming how I'm going to turn my research paper into a persuasive argument. However, this is more than just trying to convince someone that your point is correct. You must show both sides of the argument while trying to prove your point.
